Spring Maternity Dresses For After Baby, Too

My husband said to me recently, “Last time you were pregnant you looked so angelic, this time it’s just hilarious.” Unfortunately, he’s right. Winter maternity clothes are terrible, it was much easier to be cute and pregnant in the Spring/Summer. Here’s a round-up of some of my favorite Spring maternity clothes that can be worn after the baby comes, too. So smart!

maternity_dressWhen I was pregnant with my daughter in Park Slope, I loved the well-edited selection at Bump maternity. The store also carries non-maternity stuff that will work during pregnancy. I got my most-favorite Qui cashmere cardigan there and just ordered a blue robe and nightgown set for when “baby brother” arrives this April.  Loving this dress, too.

My cousin found a great jersey dress by New Zealand maternity line Egg at a sample sale in New York. I loved it so much that I ordered a second in red (similar to this) and wore both constantly during my first pregnancy. Great for work and totally worth the $100. Also love this long-sleeve version.

You may have noticed that I love HATCH Collection’s simple, chic pieces (all designed to wear during and after pregnancy). I’m adding this shirtdress to The Packing List because on vacation it could be paired with leggings for the plane or make a great coverup for the beach. It’s also a cute maternity dress.

Packing List: Unbreakable Blusher

Three reasons why the Nars makeup stick in Rouge is the perfect travel blush.

Nars_the_multiple_blush

1. It won’t crack into a million pieces if your luggage gets bounced around.
2. It doesn’t wear off as quickly as powder blush, even in tropical climates.
3. The tube lasts forever.

Genius!

Packing List: Clutch Travel Accessory

Claire Vivier clutch

I love the Clare Vivier camel-suede clutch Scott got me for Christmas. My plan is to toss it into my carry-on (or diaper bag after Baby Brother shows up) as my essentials bag. Then if I’m on a trip or headed for a night out, I can just grab that. No changing purses. My favorite part is the contrasting black zipper, a Clare V signature detail. Here are some other great zipper clutches I’ve been eyeing …

leopard print zipper pouch

Leopard-printed calf hair clutch from Linmade on Etsy, $89. Cute tassel, too.

monogram zipper clutch

Great price for the Mark and Graham monogram leather pouches, $79. (Bigger than they look, too. See here.)

We tested out Scott’s waterproof LifeProof iPhone case on our trip to St. Lucia and it worked! So it’s the latest addition to The Packing List – perfect for your winter beach escape. Slim, shockproof and waterproof (sooo much better than my clunky Otter Box!). He got me one for Christmas and I love it. Here are the shots we took with it at St. Lucia’s Sugar Beach resort.

Three Cute Things to Wear While Traveling this Fall

On this first coooold weekend of fall, I’m holed up in bed, daydreaming about our upcoming trip to St. Lucia. My plan is to be comfortable – but still cute – on the plane and I came across these three travel companions worth adding to the fall Packing List. Don’t you think?Lookmatic "Jesse" glassesContacts don’t work on the plane and I’m getting tired of my sandlewood-color glasses from Warby Parker. So I found these great frames from Lookmatic, which are also under $100 for frame and prescription.

Zara Harem PantsWhere have I been?! I just discovered that Zara, one of my favorite inexpensive chains in New York (think Spanish H&M), has finally started selling online. These pants, $60, are similar to a light-weight version I wore all summer, super-comfy but still cute. This may just be the bag I’ve been searching for. It must be big enough for my laptop but neutral to go with everything. I like the color punch on this J.Crew Biennial Satchel, $368. That neon orange is sort of an obsession right now. (Plus, J.Crew is having 25% off sale.)

Thanks to A Cup of Jo and Rickshaw Design for the inspiration.

Packing List: Skirt Security with Solid Perfume. Brilliant!

solid perfume

Packing light has become my new obsession. I’m constantly trying to streamline my suitcase with versatile and stylish pieces and clever, carry-on friendly cosmetics. Perfume hasn’t made the cut in my bag lately, but I just discovered this great solid perfume from Tocca at Catbird boutique in Williamsburg, Brooklyn.

Summer Packing List from Stylish SoCal Shop Owner Analisa Holoubek

Analisa Barbosa

Analisa Holoubek and her husband own the fantastic, Elizabeth & Prince boutiques in Palm Desert and La Quinta, California. I absolutely fell in love with their easy-going style — California cool with a New York edge (and nearly bought the place out). So included them in my recent piece on Palm Springs for the NY Times and I asked her to share what she’s packing this summer for our first Guest Packing List! Thanks to her hubby, photographer Sean Holoubek, for the great photos. What are you packing this summer?

Packing List: Folding Ray-Ban Wayfarers

I love Ray-Ban Wayfarers, they’re classically hip. And since I’m always looking to pack tight, I was thrilled to find these brilliant, folding Ray-Ban Wayfarer sunglasses – the perfect travel sunglasses. Rachel Bilson agrees.

Here’s how small they fold. I’m going to upgrade my New Wayfarers to these. Just wish I had them for my trip to Virginia Beach this weekend.

Packing List: Sun Hat to Go

sun hat

I’m fair and freckled and I’ve faced facts: I will not get tan. And sunblock can only do so much when I’m scouring the Brooklyn Flea in the blazing sun or on the deck of a boat in Capri (more on that soon, I promise!) So I always carry a hat, but I don’t always want to wear it all day. That’s why I was so happy to find this awesome, orange sun hat (modeled above by my daughter, Marguerite), San Diego Sun Hat’s large-brim ribbon hat.

It’s cute, has a big brim that can be bent up or down and, best of all it, can be folded up and put in my purse or suitcase and won’t get crushed. So I will never again be caught carrying a straw hat around an airport in January.

Packing List: The Perfect Gladiator Sandal

Sandals are a summer vacation staple but the problem is that most aren’t comfortable enough to walk around in all day. And there’s no use packing shoes that won’t go the distance.

gladiator sandal

These Gentle Souls gladiator sandals have padding under the toe and heel, a rubber sole to absorb shock, and come in the perfect light-gold color to go with everything in your bag. Magic!

The Packing List is a recurring column highlighting pieces that look great anywhere, especially in the seat of an Aston Martin on a cliff-side road in Italy.
